Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: At the end of this internship, recognizing the health problems of the interns related to the musculoskeletal system; It is aimed that they will be able to explain the treatment methods, gain competence in referral, have the necessary knowledge and skills to approach emergency orthopedic and trauma problems, and be able to perform basic applications alone.
Course Content: In the field of Orthopedics and Traumatology, it covers the principles of symptoms and signs, diagnosis and treatment of diseases in adult patients in a way that includes the learning objectives specified in the Core Education Program. It includes theoretical lectures, bedside applications, operating room visits, radiological and laboratory data evaluation, plaster and splint applications, clinical practice, service visits and bedside evaluations in the polyclinic.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Must be able to explain the formation mechanisms of the problems/diseases related to the movement system.
2) Must be able to relate the problems related to the movement system with clinical anatomy.
3) Must be able to take a history from patients presenting with orthopedic disorders.
4) Must be able to perform physical examinations of patients presenting with orthopedic complaints.
5) Must be able to evaluate the diagnostic tests applied to patients who apply with orthopedic complaints.
6) Must be able to make differential diagnosis of orthopedic diseases with evidence-based medicine practices.
7) Must be able to explain the treatment options in orthopedic diseases.
8) Must be able to explain treatment plans and referral criteria suitable for diagnosis at primary care level for orthopedic diseases.
9) Must be able to apply basic medical interventions (bandage wrapping, splint making, etc.) for the movement system.
10) Must be able to make the first intervention in orthopedic and traumatology emergencies and refer them appropriately.
11) Must be able to comprehend the importance of multidisciplinary approach in orthopedics and traumatology patients.
