Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: According to the scope of the learning objectives specified in the Core Education Program (CEP) ensure that students should acquires the knowledge and skills to be able to;
- define anaesthesia, know the methods and differences,
- able to monitor and give oxygen to the patients in case of emergency,
- know necessary equipments and drugs,
- manage the airway with basic methods,
- know urgent intervention for basic and advanced life support,
- diagnose and differentiate acute and chronic pain,
- know intensive care admission criteria and manage the critical patients in case of emergency.
Course Content: Basic knowledge and skills of Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care and Pain;
- History and development of anaesthesia,
- drugs and methods used,
- basic and advanced life support,
- airway management,
- oxygen therapy,
- basic principals of intensive care,
- fluid-electrolyte and acid base balance and disorders; diagnose and therapy,
- blood transfusion; indications,
- methods and complications,
- brain death definition and criteria,
- pain; definition diagnose therapy
- blood gas analysis
- peripheral and central venous catheterization
- arterial catheterization
- endotracheal intubation

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Must be able to know anesthesia methods and indications.
2) Must be able to know how to provide airway patency with different methods in elective and emergency conditions.
3) Must be able to ventilate the person/patient who is not breathing.
4) Must be able to know the preoperative patient the basic rules and benefits of evaluation.
5) Must be able to know local anesthetic toxicity and treatment.
6) Must be able to know the indications, complications and treatments of blood transfusion.
7) Must be able to know blood gas evaluation.
8) Must have knowledge about the general principles of intensive care and must be able to follow the criteria for admission of patients to the intensive care unit.
9) Must be able to recognize fluid and electrolyte imbalances and metabolic disorders in patients and make a treatment plan.
10) Must be able to recognize sepsis and septic shock and organ failure and make the first treatment plan.
11) Must be able to know the criteria for brain death and the conditions of decision making.
12) Must be able to know and apply basic monitoring methods.

1) When Istinye University Faculty of Medicine student is graduated who knows the historical development of medicine, medical practices, and the medical profession and their importance for society.
