Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: To obtain a general notion about how and why individuals behave as they do in given circumstances and to successfully adapt this
knowledge to the work place and especially health care instutitions, thereby facilitating communication with one’s subjects
(patients) on one hand and fellow staff personnel (subordinates, peers and superiors), on the other hand.
Course Content: Definition of behavior patterns; the components (sub-disciplines) of Behavioral Science; education and the gains we acquire thanks to being educated; brief history of Turkish educational history; connection between mind & body; illusion and hallucination; a glimpse at mental capabilities with emphasis on memory & intelligence; defense mechanisms; growth and its basic stages; introduction into “soft” psychiatry and eventually a glimse at anthropology via the concept of initiation.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) I. He/she can achieve a scientific observation of persons displaying abnormal behavior.
2) II. He/she can easily perceive or sense something’s being wrong in the atmosphere / ambiance, as a prelude to a probable trouble between interacting individuals.
3) III. He/she can proactively and swiftly intervene and act as a pacifier or compensating-mediator in the above-mentioned situation.
4) IV. He / she can display knowledge about educative processes in general and Turkish education history in specific and valorize this background for contributing to the training of subordinates in a professional manner.
5) V. Gerek günlük hayatta ve gerekse çalışma koşullarında rast geldiği sorunlu insanlarla iştigal ederken lâyıkıyla sabırlı, nâzik ve anlayışlı olabilir.

1) When Istinye University Faculty of Medicine student is graduated who knows the historical development of medicine, medical practices, and the medical profession and their importance for society.
2) knows the normal structure and function of the human body at the level of molecules, cells, tissues, organs and systems.
3) is capable of systematically taking an accurate and effective social and medical history from their patients and make a comprehensive physical examination.
4) knows the laboratory procedures related to diseases; In primary care, the necessary material (blood, urine, etc.) can be obtained from the patient with appropriate methods and can perform the necessary laboratory procedures for diagnosis and follow-up or request laboratory tests.
5) can distinguish pathological changes in structure and functions during diseases from physiological changes and can Interpret the patient's history, physical examination, laboratory and imaging findings, and arrive at a pre-diagnosis and diagnosis of the patient's problem.
