Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is showing to students the development of the literary genres in the literature of Servet-i Fünun, explaining the effects of political events like The Second Constitution, The First World War and Turkish War of Indipendence to the literature, giving information about the essential writers of the period.
Course Content: The literature of Servet-i Fünun; the development of the literary genres like poem, novel, short story and theatral play; the reflections of changing social and political life to the literature in The Second Constitutional Period; the qualifications, works and styles of the essential writers of the period; the effects of The First World War, assigning period and Turkish War of Indipendence to literary works; the literature of Fecr-i Âti; Panislamism and Turkish Nationalism in the literature.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) They recognize the literature of Servet-i Fünun and its qualifications.
2) They know this period’s essential works of the literary genres rising in the Tanzimat Period.
3) They understand the political, social and cultural environment of The Second Constitutional Period.
4) They learn the writers who are good at both politics and literature.
5) They comment on the Turkish nationalist literature in The First World War and Turkish War of Indipendence.
