Course Objectives: | This course aims to examine the impacts of migration on social order from both historical and contemporary perspectives. By analyzing how migration influences social structures, norms, and values, students will develop an understanding of how migration shapes and reproduces social order. The course focuses on key issues such as social cohesion, integration, discrimination, identity, culture, and social policies, aiming to provide an in-depth exploration of the various dimensions of migration in relation to social order. |
Course Content: | Within the scope of the course, topics such as migration terminology, types of migration, and migration theories will be addressed, along with concepts such as integration and exclusion, identity and culture, international institutions, globalization, politics, economy, media, social order, and security—all from a migration perspective. The subjects such as anti-immigrant sentiment, discrimination, polarization, human rights, and social justice are also included within the framework of the course. |
The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Students will be able to explain what migration is, its different types and basic terms, and relate migration to the social order. 2) Students will be able to explain what social cohesion and integration are, analyze the factors that hinder social cohesion, social exclusion and discrimination, and evaluate their effects on the social order. 3) Students will be able to examine the effects of migration on identity and culture, evaluate identity politics and social identity dynamics, and analyze the relationship of migration with political parties, voter behavior, and international law. 4) Students will be able to analyze the economic impacts of immigration, how the media portrays immigration and how this affects society, discourses and prejudices against immigrants, evaluate the effects of making immigration a security issue, and examine the relationship between immigration and crime. 5) Students will examine the history of migration and current migration issues in Türkiye, the role of international institutions on migration, the effects of globalization, anti-immigration sentiment, the relationship between migration and human rights, and the concept of social justice. |

11) When there is a problem with optical materials in the optician laboratory or establishment, she/he understands and fixes the problem. | |||||||||||||||
12) Obtains the knowledge of history belonging to the Ottoman and Republican Periods. | |||||||||||||||
13) Learns Turkish language structure and acquires a basic level of English grammer that will enable her/him to communicate. | |||||||||||||||
