Course Objectives: | The aim of this course is explaining to students the causes of the genesis of New Turkish Literature maintaining for two centuries, giving information about initial texts and showing politic, social, cultural situation which have preperated to these changing in 19. Century in Ottoman State. |
Course Content: | The concepts of “old” and “new” in Turkish Literature, causes of the genesis of New Turkish Literature, Tanzimat Fermanı and its effects, Tanzimat journalism, translations from The West Literature in the 19. century, the genesis of the Young Ottoman, Sinasi, Namik Kemal, Ziya Pasha and Ali Suavi, Ahmed Midhat Efendi, Muallim Naci, Recaizade Mahmud Ekrem, Abdulhak Hamid Tarhan |
The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) They recognize the political, social and cultural environment in the 19th century of Ottoman State. 2) They know what kind of effect the Tanzimat Fermanı had in the world of literature. 3) They understand the differences of New Turkish Literature from Old Turkish Literature. 4) They learn the influences of the translations made from Western Literature to the Turkish Literature. 5) They comment on the initial examples of New Turkish Literature. |
