| The BA Programme in English Language and Literature adopts a student-centred and research-informed approach to teaching and learning, providing students with a strong academic foundation in the English language, literature, and culture while fostering critical and creative thinking, analytical inquiry, interpretation, and effective communication skills. Grounded in the principles of lifelong learning, academic integrity, and universal values, the programme prepares students for continued academic, professional, and personal development. The curriculum is designed within an interdisciplinary framework that enables students to examine the English language, literature, and culture from historical, theoretical, and comparative perspectives. In addition to courses covering the major periods and genres of English literature, the programme offers modules in American Literature, Linguistics, Literary Theory and Criticism, Cultural Studies, Mythology, Academic English, and Translation Studies. Departmental electives, including Gothic Literature, Short Story, and Postcolonial Literature, allow students to pursue their academic interests while engaging with diverse critical and theoretical perspectives. The programme equips students with the ability to analyse literary and cultural texts within their historical, social, and cultural contexts; critically examine the relationships between language, culture, and society; and develop advanced skills in academic writing, textual analysis, research, and oral communication. Supported by a flexible curriculum enriched through Translation Studies and an interdisciplinary approach, students are encouraged to broaden their intellectual horizons and acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for a wide range of academic and professional contexts. Students also have the opportunity to undertake a Double Major Programme with departments such as Turkish Language and Literature, Psychology, English Translation and Interpreting, and Media and Communication, enabling them to broaden their academic expertise through interdisciplinary study. Graduates of the programme are well prepared to pursue postgraduate study and a wide range of career opportunities in education, translation, publishing, media, corporate communications, the cultural and creative industries, national and international companies, the aviation sector, public institutions, and the private sector.
