Course Objectives: | This course aims to provide students with the needed base 1. to understand and appreciate the “developmental” approach to psychological issues. 2. To understand the major theories and research methods that guide and shape research in the field of child development 3. to understand and critically analyze the physical, social, emotional and cognitive changes that occur with age 4. to recognize relevant cultural phenomena that interact with these changes throughout the first years of life. 5. to apply the accumulated information in the area of developmental psychology to real life situations with children and adolescents. |
Course Content: | Biological, cognitive and social aspects of lifelong psychological development, research methods, age-related changes in cognitive, social and emotional development. |
The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Students will be able to explain certain developmental periods, processes, and issues in life-span development. 2) Student will be able to define the distinctive features of life-span perspective on development. 3) Students will be able to define the basic theories related to life-span development. 4) Students will be able to discuss how life-span development researches are done. 5) Students will be able to compare developmental theories of Erikson, Freud, and Piaget. |
