Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: Students of this course learn about theater plays, theater criticism theory and methods, theater terminology, theater genres and periods, concepts and playwrights such as Henrik Ibsen, Bernard Shaw, Bertolt Brecht, Tennessee Williams, John Osborne, Samuel Beckett, Joe Orton, Willy Russell.
Course Content: This course aims to familiarize the students with theater plays, theories and methods of theater criticism, theater terminology, types and periods of theater, Henrik Ibsen, Bernard Shaw, Bertolt Brecht, Tennessee Williams, John Osborne, Samuel Beckett, Joe Orton, Willy Russell.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To be able to define the social, political and cultural background of 20th century England which caused the transformation of dramatic tradition in English and the emergence of new subtypes.
2) To be able to use the terminology used in the analysis of contemporary dramatic works
3) To be able to recognize the main elements of contemporary dramatic works closely and to define them in various plays.
4) To have deep knowledge on various important examples and to be able to list different subtypes of contemporary drama.
5) To be able to use contemporary analytical concepts and tools for reading and answering important dramatic works
