Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to examine contemporary literary works (British and Turkish) by and about women. The course is designed as a kind of chronological survey of contemporary female writers, and genres and issues covered by contemporary women authors. It offers the students to see the links and breaking points in women’s writing and the created image of woman as well as providing them with readings of different themes, styles, genres and issues. Therefore, students are especially encouraged to concentrate on the literary achievement and fictional technique of the works.
Course Content: Novels, short stories, films, critical theory and feminist terminology.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Evaluate and discuss women’s place in literature.
2) Learn about phases of women’s literature.
3) Learn about how and what historical and cultural developments influnced women’s literature.
