Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: In this course, it is aimed to discuss the relations between cinema, a popular mass media tool and also an art tool, and society. Based on the assumption that there is a mutual interaction between social structure and cinema, the feature of cinema as a reflector of society and culture is discussed and this feature is highlighted in the course.
Course Content: Week 1-2: Introduction to Sociology of Cinema
Week 3-4: Sociological Perspectives on Film
Week 5-6: Representation in Cinema
Week 7-8: Film as a Cultural Artifact
Week 9-10: Audience Studies
Week 11-12: Power, Politics, and Cinema
Week 13-14: Contemporary Issues in Cinema
