Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: To discuss the definition of the concept of functional, naturally sourced compounds, its historical development and applications in different countries, and to evaluate the possible effects of these components on human health by examining the chemical and biological properties of functional compounds.
Course Content: Definition of the concept of functional compounds, purpose of functional compounds, historical development process, scientific foundations, international developments related to functional, naturally sourced compounds, chemical properties of bioactive nutritional components, their biological activities and their role in preventing diseases and improving quality of life.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Defines the concept of functional compound completely by explaining its differences with other definitions.
2) Explains the chemical properties and biological activities of functional, natural origin compounds with examples.
3) Discusses the possible effects of each of the functional, naturally sourced compounds on human health by interpreting the results of different studies.
