Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: In the historical process, to learn the change of the balances in the international system and to understand the current political structure.
Course Content: Political, economic and social development at a global scale from the Renaissance to WWI, the transition of superiority from East to West, the Enlightenment, the Age of Discoveries and the role of colonization overseas, developments in Eastern Europe and Ottoman Empire, the French Revolution (1789-1815), European revolutions (1815-1848), Concert of Europe, Turkish-European Diplomatic Relations.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Recognize the process immediately after the Middle Ages, the disintegration of Europe and the dynamics of modern Europe.
2) Relate the situation of the English and the Dutch in the 17th century, in context of the rise of Spain, its decline, and the factors behind it.
3) Learn the economic and social changes in the 17th and 18th centuries.
4) Know the change of the international system in the context of the causes and consequences of the French Revolution.
5) Recognize the Napoleonic Era and the main transformations in Europe.
6) Examine the causal relationship between power dynamics and periodic dynamics in different periods in Europe.
