Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: 1- To understand the place of media in society and its effects on society,
2- Analyze key concepts and issues in mass communication theory.
3- Identify the epistemological, ontological and axiological placement of the various mass communication theories.
4- Determine their own positions concerning media influence and management, and review practical applications of those theories.
Course Content: Throughout the course, similarities and differences between social structure and media structure, ideological functions of media, mass culture, popular culture and the role of media on society are discussed.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Identify the relationship between mass media and social structure.
2) Interpret the relationship between media and culture in the context of globalization.
3) Relate the public effects of media.
4) Analyze the effect of media on mass processes.
5) Criticize how media influences modern politics and democracy within the information society.
