Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: It is aimed that students will be able to interpret the developments in the world economy in terms of history of economics and to explore factors that helped or hindered countries to industrialize. In this context, it will focus on economic development and how it shapes today's world by focusing on the history of contemporary society.
Course Content: This course is concerned with the history of economics from the ancient times to the present day and includes below listed topics: History of World Economy (Ancient economies, World Economy in the Early Middle Ages and in the Late Middle Ages); Geographical Discoveries and Economic Consequences; Industrial Revolution; Industrialization and Economic Changes in the 19th Century; Spread of Industrialization, World Economy in the 20th Century (Wars and Economic Performance, Structural Changes); World Economy in the 21st Century (New Protectionism and Trade Wars, Economic Performance), and finally current economic issues.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Learning about the phases of economic history
2) Knowledge about the basis of human history, agriculture, industry and trade, the social structures that emerged on this basis, the primitive, feudal, capitalist forms of production.
3) Obtaining information about the issues in the field of economy from the past to the present and how to overcome these issues.
4) Understanding the process leading to the Industrial Revolution which is considered as the beginning of the capitalist system and evaluating its results.
