Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives:

To teach intraoral and extraoral examination techniques in pediatric patients, teaching restorative treatment options in pediatric patients, conveying the principles of the cavity in primary teeth and restorative materials used in primary and permanent teeth, conveying the spread of dental infection and treatments in pediatric patients, providing adequate theoretical background about pain phenomenon and analgesic use in pediatric patients, identifying endodontic treatment needs in primary teeth, and teaching appropriate treatment planning for them are intended.

Course Content:

Oral diagnosis, and radiology in the pediatric patient, fluoride applications, fissure sealants, cavity principles in primary teeth, restorative materials used in primary teeth,
stainless steel crowns and crown applications in anterior teeth, spread and treatment of dental infection in pediatric patients, local anesthesia techniques in pediatric dentistry, indications for primary tooth extraction, endodontic diagnosis and pulp treatments in both primary and young permanent teeth.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Informs about restorative materials, and techniques used in dentistry, and is aware of the limitations and potential problems associated with their use.
2) Defines the materials used in primary tooth restorations.
3) Explains the spread of dental infection in pediatric patients.
4) Explains local anesthesia techniques in pediatric dentistry.
5) Lists the methods of endodontic diagnosis and treatment in primary and permanent teeth.
