Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The course will introduce students to social movements in the Global South. Students will finish with an intermediate-level knowledge on the conditions under which movements emerge and succeed. They will have acquired a broad range of conceptual and analytical tools for examining social movements across a diverse range of countries.
Course Content: This course is aimed at understanding contemporary social movements. The course is important because in recent decades dramatic social movements in different parts of the world have garnered great attention and expressed widespread political desires and frustrations. Those social movements affected global politics totally. This course provides the ability to evaluate the cause and consequences of social movements globally.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Students will gain the ability to interpret social movements through topics such as working class mobilization, urban mobilization, environmental activism, peasant and indigenous movements, gender activism, civil rights, revolutions, terrorism and ethnicity.
2) Students will finish with an intermediate-level knowledge on the conditions under which movements emerge and succeed.
3) Students will have acquired a broad range of conceptual and analytical tools for examining social movements across a diverse range of countries.

8) They use a foreign language at least at the B1 General Level in terms of European Language Portfolio criteria according to the level of education.
9) They improve their skills of teamwork, negotiation, leadership and entrepreneurship.
10) They have universal ethical values, social responsibility awareness and adequate knowledge of business law.
11) Being able to develop positive attitudes with regards to lifelong learning, they identify their individual learning needs and carry out studies to fulfil them.
12) They express their ideas and solution proposals concerning their field both written and orally, and present and publish them on both national and international platforms.
13) They use information and communication technologies together with a computer software required by the field at least at advanced level of European Computer Driving License .
