Course Objectives: | ● Lay the foundation for the courses offered in the New Media & Communication BA program; ● Understand the historical, cultural, economic, and political factors that have shaped media and communication practices; ● Understand the major theoretical perspectives on the media’s effect on individuals and society; ● Understand the media in relation to its legal framework; ● Enable students to develop their media literacy; ● Guide students to develop critical thinking and analytical skills through reading, writing assignments, and class exercises. |
Course Content: | This course provides an overview of the changing media environment in the age of media convergence. It examines the role of technology in shaping media trends in such industries as radio, television, cinema, journalism, advertising, and public relations. It also discusses issues of media freedom, regulation, and ethics in a global context. |
