Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: This course aims to provide students with analysis of experimental findings and information about measurement systems.
Course Content: This course covers basic concepts in measurement, measurement system, analysis of experimental findings, pressure, temperature and flow measurement.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Learning general information about unit systems
2) To be able to analyze errors of measurement and test results
3) To be able to perform statistical analysis of measurement and test results
4) Learns how heat transfer will affect professional development.

Course Flow Plan

Week Subject Related Preparation
1) Basic terms and heat transfer mechanisms, Generalization of measurement, definitions, unit system, measurement systems
2) Convection, conduction and heat radiation. Heat transfer in plane wall.
3) Analysis of experimental findings, experimental error types and causes, rational approach to error analysis, Uncertainty analysis
4) Statistical analysis of experimental findings, method of smallest squares
5) Pressure measurements, liquid column pressure measuring devices
6) Pressure measurement with elastic elements, piezoelectric pressure meters
7) Bridgman pressure gauge, measuring low pressures
8) Midterm Exam
9) Flow measurements
10) Routemeters
11) Temperature measurements, temperature scales
12) Pressure thermometers, bimetallic thermometers, electric resistance thermometers
