Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: Basic and intermediate level traditional geometric patterns analysis
Course Content: Islamic geometric Patterns analysis and traditional drawings, making original patterns by using the basic structure

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Presenting and applying our Geometric Patterns historical heritage and richness
2) Importance of ratios and angles in geometric symmetry systems
3) They will learn to analyze the technical drawings necessary to apply geometric patterns.
4) As a result of each lesson, a personal product will be obtained.

1) Information and theory about Islamic Geometric Patterns, Overview of Examples. Applications of today's patterns to commercial products Introduction to basic geometric figure drawings
2) Platonic Bodies - Regular tetrahedron..60' symmetrical
3) Arches, types of windows and their drawings
4) Rustem Pasa Mosque Tile Pattern
5) What is the golden ratio, regular pentagon drawing and composition
6) Midterm - online application and submissions
7) Platonic Bodies - Drawing and sizing regular dodecahedrons
8) 6-fold symmetry work, Personal/ free pattern drawing/ Sultanahmet mosque floor mosaic pattern
9) Topkapi Palace Scrolls
10) How do we make a sketch pattern? Double minaret mosque pattern drawing. Pyramid drawing analysis and application with smooth and arbitrary origin
11) Creating 6, 8 and 5 symmetry patterns with the folding method (Compass Ruler is not used)
12) Dome interior pattern drawing
13) 8 symmetry work, Selimiye mosque 45' pattern analysis and application
14) Final assignment
