Course Objectives: | The course aims to teach the basic elements of localization, the relationship between translation and localization, the various file formats used in localization and the translation tools used in translating them. |
Course Content: | The essentials of localization, the contents of localization (user manuals, IT software, websites), the relationship between translation and localization, the effect of globalization on localization, translation tools used in localization (CAT tools, translation memories, termbases, dictionaries, etc.), roles (language expert, proofreader, etc.), and workflow. |
The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To learn the basics of localization, 2) To learn the translation tools used in localization, 3) To gain an insight of the various roles in localization (language expert, editor, copy editor, etc.), 4) To experience working on different file formats. |
