Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: Students in the German program will develop in-depth
content knowledge about German cultures, literatures, and
linguistics, as well as advanced skills in the areas of
intercultural competence, critical thinking, collaborative
problem-solving, and language proficiency (speaking,
listening, reading, and writing)./Studenten im

Course Content: Achieve functional proficiency in listening, speaking,
reading, and writing. Recognize culture-specific perspectives
and values embedded in language behavior. Decode, analyze,
and interpret authentic texts of different genres. Produce
organized coherent discourse in oral and written modes. /
Studenten erreichen funktionale Fähigkeiten im Hören,
Sprechen, Lesen und Schreiben. Unteranderem können sie
kulturspezifische Perspektiven und Werte verstehen.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Achieve functional proficiency in everyday listening, speaking, reading, and writing tasks related to familiar topics (e.g., family, shopping, routines, travel).
2) Recognize basic culture-specific perspectives, behaviors, and values reflected in common German expressions and interactions.
3) Understand and interpret simple authentic texts (e.g., short articles, emails, dialogues) and extract relevant information.
4) Produce short but organized and coherent spoken and written texts using appropriate vocabulary and basic grammatical structures.
