Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to provide the student with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to meet the care and education needs of the adult individual with diabetes and his/her family regarding diabetes.
Course Content: This course includes; Definition, Epidemiology, Importance and Classification of Diabetes, Roles and Responsibilities of Diabetes Nurse and Team Approach, Diagnosis in Diabetes, Current Treatment Approaches in Diabetes, Oral Antidiabetic Management, Insulin Therapy Management, Medical Nutrition Management and Healthy Nutrition Approaches in Diabetes, Self-Monitoring and Importance of Exercise, Emergency Metabolic Complications of Diabetes and Nursing Care, Chronic Complications of Diabetes and Nursing Care, Diabetes Management in Special Situations (pregnancy, sexuality, immunization, travel), Diabetes Education, General Health Recommendations and Counseling in Diabetes, Psychosocial Aspects of Diabetes, Prevention Strategies in Diabetes and the Role of the Nurse in Prevention, Course Evaluation.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Understand the epidemiology and importance of diabetes
2) Explain the basic concepts related to diabetes nursing
3) Define the importance of prevention and early diagnosis in diabetes
4) To be able to comprehend the basic and current knowledge about diabetes treatment and care and to use them in the nursing care process
5) To gain knowledge and skills about continuous care in diabetes
6) To know effective approaches for the education of people with diabetes and their relatives and to be able to apply education
7) To be able to gain sufficient knowledge and opinion about the planning and conduct of research that will be important in the development of diabetes nursing

1) Based on the qualifications gained in secondary education; Understand the concepts and concepts related to the field of health at the undergraduate level, and have advanced theoretical and practical knowledge supported by textbooks, application tools and other sources of current information in the field of health. 2
