Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of the course is to equip the participants with academic data that will interpret meaningful data that will try to explain the changes and transformations of the concepts of nation and nationalism by examining the changes and transformations of the 19th century. Therefore, in general, the course is about making sense of the interactions that exist between social relations. Participants are aimed to question the changes and transformations caused by national and international economic technical changes and transformations in the economic and social base. The course aims to analyze social developments and "changes" that shape national and international economic and political developments, and to analyze the examples experienced in history and the solution methods of the era.
Course Content: The content of the course is equipped with a wide reading content in order to open the differences of the understanding of "order", which is described as "new", from the "old" (feudal order) to discussion, and to establish an infrastructure that will examine the economic and social transformations of the changes. Within this framework, it was aimed to improve the equipment of the participants with the content of the topic to be discussed every week and 4/5 books selected to go to this content. The given resources represent the minimum level that is relevant to the subject. In addition to the library work and bibliography, a wide reading list will undoubtedly be offered to the participants who want to improve themselves on related subjects.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Have a general theoretical base and level of analysis on nationalism debates in the field of Political Science and International Relations.
2) Knows the class analysis and nationalism debates with their historical transformations.
3) Defines the state and the new world order debates, power-state relations.
4) Knows the concepts of democracy and citizenship, and their arguments within national identity and discourse.

Course Flow Plan

Week Subject Related Preparation
1) By explaining the general process of the course, what is understood from science and scientific will be questioned, and the relationship between Social Science and Science will be questioned. In science, the meanings of concepts such as "right" and "wrong" will be discussed. The position of social sciences in science and especially the place of "history" in social sciences will be emphasized. "Is the function of science to smash existing truths?" Definitions of the question will be made from different sources for different fields. 2) Conceptual discussion will be opened and the main actors that shape the economic structure will be explained. The units that are decisive in the definition of the "New World Order" will be discussed, the models of human becoming a group, social formation will be defined, and general theories on the formation of "power-state", in short, "early state theories" will be explained and discussed. 3) Discussion of the old order and the feudal period and its characteristics, the feudal period and the feudal culture and its reflections on today. Ref2
4) Relationships between economic power and the concept of power. The transformation of the concepts of economics in its historical development and its effects on power and management philosophies. Questioning the changing content of power. Ref2
5) Questioning the relationship between means of production and culture of production and the economy, questioning the interaction between production and culture, authoritarian regimes and economic crisis, economic structuring and development models. Income distribution and crisis management, state and economic models as a model of the relatively advantageous and the construction of class societies.
