Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: To introduce communication processes and functional communication skills in intimate relationships based on theoretical perspectives.
Course Content: Course content: Interpersonal communication aims at mutual knowledge transfer and understanding
about feelings, thoughts, events and problems. In this course, the basic concepts of the communication
process, the development of close interpersonal relations, verbal and nonverbal communication,
listening skills in interpersonal relations, self-disclosure, empathy, family relations, communication
barriers, conflicts in interpersonal relations and communication, conflict resolution, effective
communication will be studied. Course objectives: The aim of the course is to introduce communication
processes and functional communication skills in close relationships based on theoretical perspectives.
Importance of the course: Human's whole life takes place in social networks and by establishing
relationships with other people. The individual's ability to establish effective and healthy relationships
with his personal and social environment is possible with the development of communication skills.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Have knowledge about communication theories.
2) Have knowledge of verbal and nonverbal communication.
3) Have knowledge of facial expressions and posture.
4) Knows theories about interpersonal relationships and attraction
5) Have an idea about the effect of internal processes and behaviors in communication.
6) Have knowledge about basic knowledge and skills about self-disclosure, empathy, listening, setting the boundary and problem solving in communication process.
7) Have knowledge about gender.
