Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: This course aims to provide students with insights into the potentials of urban spaces through socially responsible and self-organized spatial design practices; and to enable them to intervene at the right time and place for the benefit of the city and its residents, by revealing or triggering existing spatial excesses. These interventions develop through practices that establish partnerships and amateur construction tactics, while being aware of the awareness of the planet in the Anthropocene era.
Course Content: Between 1960 and 1970, the second wave of avant-garde art movements, known as 'neo-avant-garde', gained significant visibility in architecture, as well as in social and cultural structures. At the beginning of the course, the explorations in the works of those who work on practice will be followed in consideration of the atmosphere of the decade. Taking into account the first wave of the avant-garde, the results will be discussed. Following the footsteps of the important representatives of "visionary" and "utopian" architecture at the end of this modernist era, selected contemporary temporary architectural examples will be researched and reinterpreted through understanding the anatomy of space with typologies.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) The outcomes of the course will be based on the design of a temporary space inspired by typologically selected examples, which will be further developed through group interim reviews and a final submission.
