Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The most important aim of the course is to enable students to perform basic digital productions and to process their productions in a digital environment to create the meaning they want.

In this context, in this course, it is aimed to try the thinking practice necessary to visualize a theme, to give basic production information, and then to teach how to use fiction in a way that creates meaning.
Course Content: The "Digital Production and Editing" course aims to teach the basic methods of digital photography and video production. Lesson; It contains theoretical and practical information about which elements should be considered in the pre-production, production and final production stages to create motion digital images. Composition rules, basic production information, visual language expression forms, dramaturgy, cinema terms, basic principles and methods of editing are covered in the course. Along with all this, how the editing and final production stages of a basic production are done on the "Adobe Premiere" and "Adobe After Effects" programs are handled in a practical way.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Learns to do digital production and to prepare for this production.
2) Understands the effects of camera movements, camera angles, scales and plans on creating meaning and uses them in the productions he/she produces.
3) Creatively uses the rules of composition to create a visual language.
4) Comprehends the importance of editing in visual fields such as cinema and advertisement.
5) Comprehends the importance of fiction in creating a style, a form and a meaning.
6) Can make digital editing using "Adobe Premiere" and "Adobe After Effects" programs, produce motion graphics and visual effects within his plan and use them in his project.
7) By taking responsibility until the end of the project he/she produces, he/she gains the ability to make choices and express himself/herself with the visual language he/she creates.
8) Gains knowledge about where and how he/she can exhibit his/her works.

Course Flow Plan

Week Subject Related Preparation
1) Course overview and evaluation. Sharing the general course flow and evaluation criteria. Introduction to the principles of visual perception. Transfer of emotional and perceptual visual theories. Explaining the basic principles of Gestalt, constructivism, cognitive theory and semiotics.
2) Introduction to the rules of composition. The effect of color, form, depth and movement in composition. Examination of examples in the fields of cinema and photography.
3) Introduction to pre-production and preparation for production. Explanation of basic terms used in cinema. Translating the difference between plan, scene and sequence. Transferring theoretical knowledge about synopsis, treatment, scenario and shooting scenario.
4) Introduction to production and digital production. Searching for an answer to the question "How is a theme visualized, according to which constraints and variables is this visualization determined?" Expressing the effects of composition rules, created visual hierarchy, camera angles, camera scales, depth of field, camera movements, perspective on creating meaning with examples. How to use exposure variables (aperture, shutter speed and iso)? What is the 180 degree rule and the axis line? Explanation with examples.
5) Introduction to final production and editing. What is fiction? Why is fiction made? Demonstrating the effect of fiction on creating meaning with examples. What are filmic time and filmic space and how are they created?
6) Explanation of basic editing techniques and terms. What is continuity editing, crossover and parallel editing? How is it used? Explanation of image transition methods with examples. Cut, chain transition, darken and lighten, blur and sharpen, overlay, freeze and iris. Explanation with examples.
7) Introduction to basic techniques and methods used in editing. Jump cut, match cut, cross cut, whip pan, fast motion, slow motion, voiceover, sound bridge, forward jump, backward jump and long motion. Explanation with examples.
8) Midterm.
9) Introduction to digital editing. Introducing the interface of the "Adobe Premiere Pro" program and the tools used.
10) Application of project and sequence settings in "Adobe Premiere Pro" program and rough editing on sample plans.
11) Introduction to effects on the "Adobe Premiere Pro" program. Using image transition methods, applying image and audio bridges, basic level color editing, key frame logic and masking.
12) Sound editing on "Adobe Premiere Pro".
13) Introduction to motion graphic design. Introducing the interface of the "Adobe After Effects" program and the tools used. Adding animated KJs to edited images and creating generic designs. Making simple intro and outro works.
14) Render settings. Screening and staging options. General information about distribution and publishing opportunities, copyrights, intellectual property.
15) Final Exam
