Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: To teach students basic medical terminology. (Basic anatomy and related terminology including Latin, Turkish and English appendices)
To introduce students the basic knowledge about the nature of the human body, medical problems and procedures.
To facilitate the understanding and production of texts on medical subjects.
To enable students to develop strategies for translating texts for different readers (eg scientific articles, textbooks, patient information leaflets)
Course Content: Introduction of different types of medical texts. Explanation of terminology and effective usage in medical translations.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To gain familiarity with medical terminology and medicine
2) To have knowledge Latin and Greek inscriptions used in medical texts, words, origins
3) To recognize the main medical texts and their specific terminology
4) To know the difficulties in medical translation and develop strategies to overcome them,
5) To carry out research for medical text translations and reflect them on their works

3) He / She takes ethical and practical training from beginning to advanced levels to develop consecutive and simultaneous interpreting skills in various fields such as health, media and law etc. Thanks to this training, he / she practices his/her profession in accordance with the standards of conference interpreting in various legal, health and media-communication fields nationally and internationally.
3) He / She acquires the ability to understand multicultural approaches in the field of translation and interpretation and reflects the efficient bilingual and bi-cultural practices on his/her works.
4) He / She knows and applies professional ethics, professional standards and practices in the field of translation and interpretation.
5) He / She applies basic research methods and theories in social sciences.
