Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: Examination of Turkey's modernization process and understanding of developments, learning of the modernization ecole, evaluation of the events in the modernization process in a cause-effect relationship.
Course Content: In the scope of this course, the period of Lale II. Modernization and Westernism movements in Ottoman Empire will be examined. 1876 ​​and 1908 constitutionalist movements in the Ottoman Empire, II. Constitutional monarchy, modernization of the Republican period will be discussed in socioeconomic and political planes.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Understand the traditional and modern social dynamics of Turkish society.
2) Learn the historical characteristics of Turkish society and gain the ability to analyze the change of these qualities.
3) Learn the concepts that are effective in the modernization process.
4) Learn the process and the problems in the formation of modern Turkey.
5) Discuss the effects of Ottoman heritage to Turkey's modernization.
6) Understand the effects of the developments in the Republican era and after.
7) Analyzes the effects and results of Turkish modernization efforts and makes inferences for the future.

9) Can provide opinions, thoughts and solutions in the fields of Political Science and International Relations to the related persons and institutions in written and oral form.
10) Follow developments in the field and communicate with colleagues by using a foreign language at least at the level of European Language Portfolio B1.
11) Uses information and communication technologies together with computer software at the advanced level of European Computer Driving License required by the field.
