| Course Objectives: | The objective of this course is to introduce students to the concepts of healthy living, physical activity, exercise, and sedentary lifestyle; and to provide an understanding of the importance of physical activity in overall health, quality of life, and the prevention of chronic diseases. Furthermore, by explaining the role of physical activity across different age groups (children, adults, older adults) and special conditions (obesity, chronic diseases, etc.), it aims to equip students with the skills to assess physical activity/fitness at an individual level, analyze barriers/motivators to physical activity, and adopt fundamental preventive approaches (e.g., back school) aimed at protecting spinal health. |
| Course Content: | Definitions of physical activity, exercise, and physical fitness; physiological and psychosocial health effects of physical activity; sedentary behavior, inactivity, and associated risks; methods for assessing physical activity levels and physical fitness; determinants, barriers, and motivational factors of physical activity; physical activity principles and guidelines across life stages (childhood, adulthood, older adulthood); physical activity approaches in obesity and various chronic diseases (cardiovascular, metabolic, etc.); and back school principles within the scope of preventive ergonomics and spinal health. |

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Explains the pathophysiological mechanisms of physical activity, inactivity, and sedentary behavior at a theoretical level, as well as their clinical effects across different age groups, chronic diseases, and spinal health. 2) Analyzes and reports physical activity levels, physical fitness parameters, and clinical/environmental barriers hindering participation in individuals from diverse populations using appropriate assessment and evaluation methods. 3) Designs evidence-based physical activity recommendations and preventive lifestyle interventions tailored to individuals` clinical characteristics, risk profiles, and life stages (obesity, chronic conditions, spinal/back health, etc.). |
