Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: To give the student a basic understanding of the Köktürk and Old Uygur languages, collectively known as Old Turkic and comprising the oldest extant written records of the Turkic language family.
Course Content: The history of Central Asian history of Köktürkçe and Old Uyghur Turkish (the pre-Islamic period), the alphabets used to write the Köktürkçe and Old Uighur Turkish, especially the Runic alphabet and the Uyghur alphabet, an overview of the old Turkish language literature, the historical course of research in this field.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Can give basic information about Köktürkçe and Old Uighur Turkish which are handled collectively under the name of Old Turkish Language.
2) Can give basic information about the alphabets used to write these languages, especially Köktürk and Uygur alphabets.
3) Can give information about the literatures of these languages and the period they are spoken.
4) Can give basic information about the literatures of these languages and the history of the region where they are spoken.
5) Can give basic information about the historical course of the researches in the field of Old Turkish Language and the academic literature currently used.

10) Examine and evaluate the Turkish works in the social and cultural context.

12) Makes interpretation, commentary, interpretation, analysis and analysis by using traditional methods used in understanding, explaining and interpreting the old Turkish literature texts.
