Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The program does not only target the students to familiarize with the basic concepts related to medical tourism, but also to give them the ability to analyze the actual practices and the development of medical tourism practices, to differentiate between the right and wrong applications of medical tourism in Turkey and in the world. The program also aims to provide extensive knowledge for the students about how to form correct structuration for medical tourism management in institutions and on national level and extensive knowledge about medical tourism strategies.
Course Content: The concept of medical tourism in the world and in Turkey, the types of medical tourism.
The evolution and transformation of the medical tourism concept.
Applications of international healthcare services. The development and actual position of Turkey in the international arena of medical tourism.
Medical tourism management on national and institutional level.
Medical tourism department structures. Medical tourism management in complex and large institutions. Analysis of medical tourism strategies. International healthcare marketing practices, reputation management, the importance of ethics in international healthcare management.
International cooperation models, business partners management. Budget and pricing management models. Operations management.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Explains the concept and types of health tourism.
2) Gets to know medical tourists’ behavioral models.
3) Gets to know medical tourism management structures in hospitals.
4) Gets to know different cooperation and development models regarding medical tourism on the international platform.
5) Gets to know the formation and management principles of sales channels/business partners.
6) Has a good command of operational management of international patients in hospitals.
7) Gets to know online & offline marketing strategies applied internationally.
8) Gets to know different business models (hospital, medical tourism agency, insurance company, TPAs, etc.) in the international healthcare industry.
9) Knows the importance of international brand and reputation management.
