Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: Course Objectives The aim of this course is; By examining the concepts of health and disease within the social and cultural structure, it is to provide students with information that will enable them to establish causal relationships between society and health.
Course Content: The subject of Social Structure and Change in Turkey will be discussed by giving an overview of the concepts of Sociology, Human and Society. Introduction to Health Sociology: Basic Concepts, Historical Emergence and Development; Health and Disease from a Sociological Perspective: Social, Cultural, Economic and Political Factors Affecting Health and Disease; Health Inequalities; Migration and Health; Culture and Health topics will be covered.
Commercialized Health: Medicalization, Consumer Society and Healthy Living Discourse; Traditional Treatment, Healers, Alternative Medicine; Media and Health; City and Health; Old Age, Aging and Death; Detailed information will be given on Globalization and Health.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Examine the concepts of human, society, and health and their relationships with each other.
2) Explain the emergence and development of health sociology.
3) Explain the factors affecting health and disease.
4) Evaluate the effects of migration, culture, and media on health.
5) Discuss health inequalities.
6) Explain the social aspects of traditional treatments and modern treatments.
7) Explain the concepts of old age, aging, and death from a sociological perspective.
