Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The class is aimed at enhancing students’ basic knowledge of editing
Course Content: Today, radio and television have become a multimedia platform thanks to digital media. In the production of content in the media, the importance of video as well as photography has increased. The most important subject of visual media named montage is one of the most important issues a communicator needs to know. Montaging made by a media professional for content produced by him with his own knowledge shall give him a competitive advantage. In the montage techniques, the basic editing knowledge that each communicator needs to know will be presented as their applications. Presentation of the most widely used software in the industry, practical presentation and ensuring each student reaching the level of making his own edition are all aimed in this course that gives opportunity to each student to make application one-to-one.

3) Experience the practical application of learned concepts via editing software.

Course Flow Plan

1) Introduction of the Class. Understanding the editor’s gaze. Introduction of editing software.
2) History and movements of editing in cinema.
3) History and movements of editing in cinema.
4) Grammar of Editing. Basic rules of editing. First assignment.
5) Evaluation on assignments. Editing approaches in different media. Studying films and videos in different media.
6) Working with image and sound. Decisions making during the editing process. Midterm Assignment.
7) Evaluation on assignments. Working with sound. Working on a dialog scene.
8) Concepts of editing considering the “6 Rule” of Walter Murch.
9) Second assignment. Concepts of editing considering the “6 Rule” of Walter Murch.
10) Evaluation on assignments. Editing approaches in different media. Studying films and videos in different media. Midterm Assignment.
11) Decisions making during the editing process. Midterm Assignment.
12) Evaluation on assignments. Decisions making during the editing process.
13) Final assignment. Working on an action scene.
