Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: To introduce basic concepts and theories and subfields of social psychology, to provide understanding, evaluation and reporting skills for social events and phenomena.
Course Content: A review of theoretical and methodological knowledge and current research on various topics in Social Psychology.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Have knowledge about intergroup relations, intergroup behaviors, group structure and group dynamics.
2) After studying this lesson students should understand how attitudes are formed and the process of development of attitude. By the end of this lesson students will be able understand: When and why attitudes influence behavior. After studying this lesson students should understand: Techniques of changing attitudes such as persuasion and cognitive dissonance.
3) Understand the social and cultural factors underlying aggressive behavior. Know current theories of helping and altruism, can compare and evaluate these theories.
4) Understand the phenomenon of social impact. Know the factors affecting the compliance behavior. Know the differences between obedience, identification and adoption. Can explain why we sometimes show conformity and why we sometimes resist.
