Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to enable students to understand the relationship between health, nursing philosophy, and ethics; to conduct nursing practices in accordance with professional ethical principles, values, patient rights, and legal regulations; to exhibit behaviors consistent with professional values as members of the profession; and to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to use nursing ethical principles and current ethical approaches in resolving ethical problems they may encounter.
Course Content: This course covers the philosophy of health and nursing; the concepts of ethics, values, and morality; professional ethical principles, values, and patient rights; professional ethical regulations and related legal regulations; ethical concepts and theories; the development of patient rights; resources used in ethical decision-making (ethical principles, ethical problem-solving methods, and ethics committees); the ethical approach in the development process; and case studies related to the critical analysis and resolution of ethical problems and current situations with ethical dimensions in healthcare settings.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Embraces the professional ethical principles, values, and standards of nursing, and respects the values and rights of individuals.
2) Become aware of the ethical issues encountered in nursing care.
3) Discusses the social, economic, political, cultural, technological, and institutional factors that influence nursing practices and ethical issues encountered in healthcare delivery.
4) Analyzes ethical issues encountered in nursing care in terms of relevant legal regulations, ethical principles, values, patient rights, and relevant national and international ethical regulations.
5) Utilizes relevant resources (ethical principles, patient rights, ethical problem-solving methods, ethics committee and related legal regulations) in resolving ethical issues encountered in the practice environment.
