Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: General concepts of child health and diseases, basic health services, newborn, growth development and disorders, nutrition and disorders, disorders related to organs and systems / diseases and care
Course Content: The Pediatric Health and Diseases Course covers information and practices aimed at protecting the health of the child, family and community, developing and meeting the child's care needs with a holistic approach when health is deteriorated

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To be able to understand the philosophy of pediatric care and to provide appropriate care in pediatric care philosophy in clinical practice
2) To be able to explain the developmental period characteristics of children and adolescents and the approaches to protect and develop health specific to each period
3) To be able to provide nursing care for children, adolescents and their families
4) To be able to perform physical examination in children and adolescents and to determine normal and abnormal conditions

2) Importance of the neonatal period Neonatal diseases and care Newborn screenings Children with genetic disorders and their care Children with endocrine disorders and their care Practice in the lab (PKU sampling, blood glucose measurement, insulin administration) Notes from the lecture
3) Problems with the respiratory system in children and their care Children's nutrition, feeding issues, and their care Practice in the lab (Postural drainage, inhalation trainings, aspiration, tracheostomy, nasogastric/orogastric catheter set, gastrostomy care, enteral and parenteral feeding Notes from the lecture
4) Children with hematological and oncological problems and their care Children with urinary system problems and their care Practice in the lab (Blood transfusion, CVP-Port-Hickman catheter management, fluid intake-urine output monitoring) Notes from the lecture
