Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: In this course, it is aimed for students to know the purpose, philosophy and principles of palliative care, the roles and responsibilities of the palliative care team and nurse, to identify the palliative care needs of the patient and their family and to create a care plan during the nursing process.
Course Content: This course contains topics related to the level, importance, and structure of palliative care in the worldwide, its ethical and legal aspects, the assessment and management of the needs of palliative care patients and their families, and the provision of individual and holistic nursing care

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) At the end of this course, the students will be able to: Explain the concept, purpose and principles of palliative care.
2) Explain the legal rights and responsibilities of palliative care nurses.
3) Discuss the roles and responsibilities of the palliative care team.
4) Plan evidence-based nursing care for symptom control in palliative care.
5) Knows the ethical and legal issues regarding palliative care.
6) Identify the needs of palliative care patients and their families by considering a holistic approach, and manage nursing care.
7) Explain the importance of values, culture, and beliefs in communication with palliative care patients and their families.
