Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The main objective of this course is to delve into the multidimensional partnership between the United States and Turkey. Its scope covers from the late 18th century when both countries first established official relations, to the years that followed the foundation of the Turkish Republic until the contemporary period.
Course Content: This course explores the multifaceted relationship between Turkey and the United States, delving into historical developments, contemporary challenges, and potential opportunities. Students will gain insights into the geopolitical, economic, and cultural dimensions of this vital transatlantic partnership. Topics include the historical context of diplomatic ties, the impact of global events, such as the Cold War and the War on Terror, economic collaborations, political alliances within NATO, and the role of cultural exchanges. The course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of Turkish-American relations, fostering critical analysis and informed perspectives on one of the crucial international alliances of the 21st century.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Understand the various sources of US foreign policy and analyze them in comparison with Turkish foreign policy
2) Describe the existing behavioral pattern(s) in US foreign policy
3) To be able to evaluate various US and Turkish foreign policy approaches in different periods
4) To be able to analyze the changes in US foreign policy in the post-Cold War period and evaluate its reflections on Turkish foreign policy.
5) To be able to comprehend current global developments from the perspective of US and Turkish foreign policy

4) Gains knowledge and skills to evaluate and discuss the events in an interdisciplinary dimension, and analyze the political, social and economic problems encountered in national and international contexts within a certain conceptual framework.
