Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to determine the elements that pose risks in terms of patient and employee safety in health institutions and to take measures to reduce risks, to create a patient safety culture and to spread it throughout the institution, to ensure that students have knowledge about quality and safety strategies in the health system.

Course Content: This course includes the basic concepts of patient safety, the development of patient safety in the world and in our country, Patient Safety Goals, Risk Assessment and Analysis, Safe Surgical Practices, Drug Safety, Patient Safety in Laboratory and Radiology Applications, Radiation Safety, Facility Management and Safety, Medical Error Reporting and Analysis.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Defines concepts related to patient safety, such as "patient safety," "risk," "error," and "reporting."
2) Identifies factors that pose risks to patient safety in healthcare institutions.
3) Lists factors that pose risks to worker safety in healthcare institutions.
4) Evaluates the importance of a patient safety culture.
5) Assesses practices that can improve patient safety.
