Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: Students will have knowledge on migration and asylum issues and be able to transfer their knowledge to practice easily.
Course Content: Migration and asylum. Basic concepts. Migration, asylum, minority, ethnic group.
Basic information on migration and asylum: What is it? Aims, motives, impulses, reasons, types.
History of migration and asylum.
Law and legislation on migration and asylum.
Migration and asylum movements in the world.
Migration and asylum movements in Turkey.
Migration and asylum in today's domestic and foreign politics. Situation and developments related to the subject in Turkey.
Professional functions of social workers in the field of migration and asylum in the world and in Turkey and professional activities in this field.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To have knowledge on migration, asylum, human trafficking and smuggling.
2) To be able to dominate and use the concepts of migration, asylum, human trafficking and smuggling at the level of perception.
3) To be able to analyze and evaluate newspaper information on the subject with a professional perspective.
4) To gain the ability to produce solutions specific to each case in problem situations related to the subject.
5) To give the student the self-confidence to work in this field.
6) To gain the ability to talk on the subject without looking at the material for an average of fifteen minutes, to transfer information and opinions, to gain the ability to make evaluations.
7) To be able to transfer their knowledge about the subject to practice.

4) Legislation on migration. The function and duties of social work in the field of migration.
5) History of asylum. Legislation on asylum. The function and duties of social work in the field of asylum.
6) The problem of asylum. The problem of asylum in today's Turkey.
7) Midterm exam

9) The current status of asylum.
10) What does a social worker do in the field of asylum? With European examples.
