Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: Students should learn the concepts of neglect and abuse, be able to communicate with children who can be considered as a risk group in neglect and abuse (children working on the streets and in need of protection, workers) by knowing their developmental characteristics. Be able to learn the ways of interdisciplinary cooperation in child neglect and abuse and the methods that can be followed in children who have been neglected and abused. It is aimed to monitor the developmental processes of neglected and abused children and to learn communication skills with these children.
Course Content: Definition of neglect, abuse and violence, examining the characteristics of neglected and abused children from various aspects (development, socio-demographic etc.), identifying the child who is thought to be neglected or abused, planning the paths to be followed and monitoring the process, Information about children, the definition of worker children, the developmental characteristics of these children, and the risks they may face are explained.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Have information about the fundamental rights recognized by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child,
2) At the end of this course, the student can learn the definition of the concepts of neglect and abuse.
3) Can examine neglected and abused children developmentally,
4) Can plan the ways to be followed in children who have been neglected and abused,
5) To learn the concepts of children in need of protection, street children, children working on the streets, and child workers, to communicate with these children, to know the developmental characteristics of these children, and to produce solutions to the problems that may arise in these children,
6) Recognizes situations of neglect and abuse that threaten the child's best interests and obtains information on taking necessary precautions,
7) Obtains information about the necessary initiatives to protect the best interests of the child
8) Can provide guidance to families and educational institutions regarding children's rights.
