Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: Nervous system and its development, evaluation of developmental stages, developmental and neurological disorders, evaluation of developmental stages according to age and stages, global developmental delay and approach to mental retardation, static encephalopathies, neurometabolic and neurodegenerative diseases and rehabilitation/treatment approaches, mental health problems in children, Turkey. The aim is to provide competencies regarding the developmental screening tests, psychometric evaluation and usage areas of psychometric tests used in Turkey.
Course Content: Embryological development of the nervous system, structural and functional features, normal neurological development and evaluation, developmental screening tests and areas of use of psychometric tests. Approach to global developmental delay and mental disability, definition, differential diagnosis, causes, early diagnosis, prevention and treatment approaches of diseases in main groups such as cerebral palsy, epilepsy, metabolic and hereditary diseases.

1) Defines the stages of development in the childhood age group with examples
2) Explain the structure and function and development of the nervous system
3) Classifies developmental and neurological disorders and defines the algorithm of approach to motor and mental retardation.
4) Discuss the characteristics of neurological disorders
5) Explains treatment approaches of neurological disorders with examples.
