Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to provide students with;
1. Assess all body systems from head to toe and detect abnormal conditions and make clinical decisions
2. Taking the health history of healthy/sick individuals and interpreting it
3. Knowing and applying physical examination methods
4. Knowing and diagnosing subjective and objective findings
5. Ability to detect and record data on activity, sleep, rest, mental health, child and elderly health promotion, and health
6. To gain necessary knowledge and skills related to ethnic and cultural evaluation.
Course Content: This course includes teaching physical examination methods on the basis of requests and general evaluation of health.

The content of this course; Basic Concepts, Evaluation of Subjective and Objective Data, Taking History; Physical Examination Methods/Tools: Examination, Palpation, Auscultation, Smell; Vital Signs, Pain and Anthropometric Measurements; Evaluation of Skin and Its Attachments; Head and Neck Assessment; Abdominal Gastrointestinal System Evaluation; Evaluation of Cardiovascular and Peripheral Vascular System; Evaluation of Thorax and Lungs; Evaluation of Genito-urinary Organs; Evaluation of Activity, Sleep and Rest; Evaluation of Child Health; Covers the topics of Evaluation of Mental Health.

Learning Outcomes

1) Adopts the importance of health assessment for health care.
2) Knows the concepts of health and disease.
3) Knows the necessary preparations for physical assessment.
4) Gains the ability to take the health history of sick/healthy individuals.
5) Knows, applies and interprets physical examination methods and instruments.
6) Assesses the patient's vital signs.
7) Gains the ability to make a systemic assessment of the individual with a holistic approach.
8) Gains the ability to determine the patient's care needs and interpret abnormal situations.
9) Knows the role of cultural differences in health assessment.
10) Assesses of the data obtained from physical examination.
