Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The goals of this course are:
Introduction of quantitative and qualitative research methods
Establish the validity of research by means of measurement, relationships, and generalizability
Recognition of evidence-based interventions
Using research evidence to inform one’s practice
Using research findings to provide relevant services that advance the social well-being of client populations
Course Content: This course is designed to introduce students to quantitative and qualitative social research methods and to understand scientific and ethical approaches to building knowledge.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To demonstrate an understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods and how they contribute to the practice knowledge base
2) To critically assess research findings in order to employ evidence-based interventions
3) To use research evidence to inform and evaluate one’s own practice
4) To demonstrate an understanding of social work values and ethics in the process of research and advocating for human rights and social and economic justice
5) To use research findings to provide relevant services that advance social well-being of the client population
