Course Objective and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to determine the nutrients that are important for brain development in peri-natal, post-natal and childhood periods, to determine which of the brain functions and regions associated with cognitive development are particularly sensitive to suboptimal nutritional conditions, and to identify them in some physiological, metabolic and behavioral characteristics in adulthood and old age.
Course Content: It includes cognitive function and development, the developmental process of the brain, the effect of macro (carbohydrate, protein and fat) and micro (vitamin and mineral) nutrients on cognitive development and influencing behavior.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Explain the relationship between cognitive development, brain functions and nutrition
2) Counts nutrients that are particularly important for brain development early in life.
3) Explain how cognitive functions are affected and the mechanisms of these effects in chronic disease states associated with inadequacy, excess intake or nutrition of these nutrients.
4) The positive and/or negative effects of foods on behavior through the nervous system and brain are examined.
5) Improves the applicability of food and behavior interaction in daily life for a healthy life.
